Finding ‘it’ hard in US

Mohammad Yousuf is from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is a student in Arizona University and a staunch follower of Islam. He prays five times a day, even if it costs him his class. He is a devoted Muslim, never missed the fasts of Ramzan and supports beard for Muslims. He’s gone to US for his studies. Now, he’s started missing classes too frequently – sometimes for prayers…sometimes for attending the meetings of Islamist guests who used to visit the university to speak on the role of Islam in the world, which sometime is open for the debate.

However, the post 9/11 era started a new western outlook to the Islamic world. After that, there was a tint of suspicion, which always hovers over the Muslim community in the US. Now Yousuf’s activities are under scan because of his behavior that US of A considers as budding of Islamist extremism and thus a threat. Yousuf’s activities raise his teachers’ concerns because of the new regulations to the universities to tackle the extremism make teachers more vigil and the signs, as they say, shown by Yousuf makes him prone to Al-Qaeda influence and to be picked up for suicide bombing.

The guidelines to the universities are yet another step to darken the clouds of Islamophobia. This is a futile exercise, awkward and more intended to estrange Islam. By doing so, knowingly (or unknowingly), US and the west are becoming more vulnerable to Jihad because here the strategy is to divide than to win the hearts and minds of students – potentially the best way to put off the conflict forever – who can fell to Jihad.

Strict Visa restriction and censorship in US have dented its repute in the Islamic world and the result is witnessed in the form of decline in the flux of students to US. Now, the students from Islamic world opt for Australia to US as a favorite destination for further studies. Yes, Australia, they say, offers something unique and different…different in terms of freedom of thought, expression, and except these university officials make Muslims feel comfortable. The universities in Australia offer prayer rooms, theme parks and restaurants with food certified as “halal” and cooked in accordance with the Islamic dietary law. Additionally, difference between the two, of course, is of welcoming smiles and suspicion.

With all this, there appears difference in the number of students that are increasing in Australia and decreasing in US. Now, Yousuf doesn’t want to stay in US for the further studies. He doesn’t want to be under the suspicious eyes and last but not the least is, he doesn’t find US adaptable anymore. Yousuf also now preferred to go Australia for his post graduation studies. For the familiarity, some of his friends are already staying there, and here adaptability is the prominent feature.

The crux of the matter is in the fact that Islamophobia myth is more destroying the US than sidelining Islam. With the reducing flux of students, US is losing some valuable dollars that these foreign students add to its economy. US is losing to this myth and days are not far when Islamophobia will become a name associated with US destruction. This is evident with the scuffle of a bond between the United States and the Arab world and lot more is yet to come...

This is not the problem in US only, everywhere people see hardcore Islam followers with suspicion and people like Osama, Saddam are responsible for it. This is a real surprise why do intellectual Muslims also choose the same path and start believing in violence and killing innocent people.

I am just pasting here an incident happened with a common Muslim in US in 2006 - Motaz Elshafi, a software engineer, opened an internal e-mail at work one day and found a e-mail and the first word was 'Dear Terrorist.' The internal email was sent to him by a co-worker just after train bombings in India in which 207 people were killed. The email indicated that such incidents make people stronger. Elshafi, a resident of New Jersey, said, "I was furious, What did I have to do with this violence?" Who is responsible for the incident happening everywhere with innocent Muslims?

Such incidents have taken a sharp rise in post 9/11 days. Such harassments and incidents of discrimination against Muslims are on rise in the US. Anti-Muslim feeling is gaining strength in the country. This is not good for the country's diverse culture as well and such feelings are damaging the mental health of Muslims living in US.

How can anyone say that all Muslims are innocent in US when about one-third of all Muslims living in US are sympathetic to Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden? Leave others behind, 22 per cent Muslims do not even want Muslims as their neighbors. How can we tolerate people sympathetic to laden in our country.

Its all baseless, nothing like this is happening in the United States. I do agree that some of such incidents happened in the first six months after 9/11 and at the time of Afghanistan and Iran war. But no, everything is fine,. no such problems are coming anywhere.

Who says its not happening in the US? It is everyday story and people target Muslims for silly reasons. Just because of wearing a head scarf people get nasty stares every day in the US. Sikhs become target because of the head scarf they wear.

Why Muslims of anywhere are 'Muslim first' then only an American, India or British or citizen of any other country? This is the root of the problem. People should respect their nation first and religion should come later.

Only Muslims can restrict the blind race of Islamic extremism. United states needs Muslims population in the country not only for the prosperity they bring to the nation but also for working as allies in discouraging violent Islam. They can only report about any incidents waiting to be happened. three-fourth of Muslims in US are concerned about the threatening rise of Islamic extremism all over the world. The number is more than Muslims with similar thinking in other countries in Europe and other countries with Muslim majority.

Islam is the most misunderstood religion in the world and not by non-Muslims but Muslims. This is unfortunate that majority of Muslim population donot know what the Islam is. This is the responsibility of Muslim intellectuals and moderate leaders to change belief taking shape in the world.

Suppose there are One million Islamic militants spread all over the world. Are they the representatives of the whole religion of 1.1 billion people or more? Absolutely not. How can a small group, that is not even the one percent of the total population, be the face of the whole religion. Don't link 99.1% people of this religion with 0.1% of criminal-minded people.

The 'Holy Quran' clearly states that the person, who kills anyone while not in self defense, is not a Muslim. Islam is not the religion where followers are baptised. If a person do believe in following the 'Quran', he becomes Muslims. You are a Muslim because you know and follow the 'Quran'. If you are doing anything opposite what is written in 'Quran', you cannot be a Muslim. These terrorists are not Muslims because of their anti-humanity thoughts.

Still it’s a myth! They have (Islamists) problem with everyone – be it Jews, Romans, Hindus…still Islamophobia is myth! They have got hatred with them, they know only violence and nothing else… it’s not phobia it’s reality.

Why in India, Muslims have their own personal law and the laws of the country doesn't apply to them, only Islamic sharia law does. Any one protesting against activities of Muslim groups comes under attack from pseudo-secular groups and Islamic extremists as well. What is happening in US is old phenomenon in India but all goes in vain.

yes this is the time for the world to realize that Muslims should be allowed have their say than to be sidelined. They are millions and millions in number. World just can’t ignore them and if they won’t have peace, the world won’t have peace. And spreading Islamophobia is not the solution but winning the hearts and minds of people is.

yea US has started losing. It’s just the beginning. Some trillions of dollars on ‘War on terror’ some precious lives of soldiers. Now, declining value of its dollar in the world market, this how gradually US is going down. US have lost strength that it has shown pre 9/11 incident. Now sliding down of its clout. Still, there is time to mend things but before there remains only foes and no friends.

I just want to see the end of this phase of the Islamic nightmare…both – Islam and the Islamist thinking should be put off the main stream…they are too conservative to live in modern world.

who originated Islamophobia and who is responsible for the conflict are some question that have one answer and ends only at one destination, US. They used the term to overwhelm the world against Islam and now it’s they who will pay for it. Just wait and watch US will soon be ruined because the brutalities that the US policies are inflicting in the Mideast and the likes of war on terror, and the coming Muslim generations are more than watching, now they got to pay for their wicked maneuvering… they will surly, you just wait.

It seems to be a coherent attitude in spreading Islamic extremism everywhere in the world. India has been the testing ground of Islamic terrorism for years and years. Rest of the world should be united to save the humanity from this danger before it goes too late.

This is Quran's Ayat 2:190 that says "Fight for Allah's sake those who fight you, but do not be aggressors.Allah does not like aggressors"

Terrorists in Islam have destroy the face of Islam. I think this is my duty to as a pure Muslim to clear the widespread misunderstanding about Islam. Islam never supports violence. It gives strength to voice of peace.

Moderate Islamic leaders should come out and speak against violence being used in the name of Islam. Suicide bombers are taking such extreme steps in the name of Jihad. They are the victims of politically motivated leaders with no religious motivation who are misleading youths in the name of religion.

Islam and peace? Are you joking? Just have a random look on the world's map and you will find where ever there is Islam, there is violence and hatred. It is true in countries like Egypt, Arabia, Iran, Indonesia, Lebanon, Pakistan, greater part in Africa and many more. You can find these countries are burning with problems such as poverty, anger, killing, honor killing, martyrs suicides, backwardness, envy, terrorism, drug use, corruption, barbarism, hopelessness and despair. No body is living in peace in these countries.

The best way to define a religion is to compare their religious leaders. Most of the religious establishments have used 'God' to justify their own cruel behaviour. It has happened in every religion in past but they learnt from their mistakes. Islamic leaders are not learning and this is the main problem.

The radical followers of Islam has made sure that by their heinous acts have ensured that other members of the faith who are not into such activities are also being persecuted and looked suspiciously upon. This is ensuring that the moderates get mentally alienated from the rest of the world and then suffer from the kind of paranoia that is going to make them join hands with the extremists.

This is a very sad thing that we are witnessing now.
